“Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.” ~ Coco Chanel

For those of you who didn’t see our post earlier today about photographer John Moore’s latest work documenting the famine wreaking havoc… we highly suggest you take a look through this gallery: Somalia: Devastating Photos

How can we sit idly by while people endure this kind of pain? How have we become so numb to these images where we’ll scroll through our news feeds and only allow ourselves to catch a glimpse of this face. Sometimes I feel really hopeless. The people who are in the field, the people who can help the most, face the harsh reality of how complex and convoluted the situation actually is. The complexity creates this sense of pessimism about the world. What kind of action is needed to eliminate this pain for good? Will we ever be capable of preventing this?
“‘Several rich governments are guilty of willful neglect as the aid effort to avert catastrophe in East Africa limps along. The warning signs have been seen for months, and the world has been slow to act. By the time the UN calls it a famine it is already a signal of large scale loss of life.’ said Fran Equiza, Oxfam’s director in the Horn of Africa… Aid workers point out that weather reports and famine early warning systems operating in Somalia had predicted extreme shortages of food as long ago as January… ‘It’s scandalous that we’re seeing this avoidable tragedy unfolding across the region,’ said Jeremy Hulme, chief executive of the Society for the Protection of Animals Abroad. ‘Once again our belated response is a vast operation to feed the starving, having failed to protect their livelihoods.’”- The Telegraph
